The Institute for IT, Media and Intellectual Property Law operates through the Hugo Grotius gGmbH - non-profit society for the advancement of legal sciences in Bremen, Germany.

The Hugo Grotius gGmbH serves public-benefit purposes through "1. the advancement of science and research" according to Section 52 (1) and (2) of The Fiscal Code of Germany (Abgabenordnung).

The purpose of the society is the advancement of science and research (§ 52 para. 2, no. 1 AO). The society realizes this purpose through the Institute for IT, Media and Intellectual Property Law. The institute conducts scientific research freely and independently. It is subject to the "freedom of research and teaching" acc. Art. 5 para. 3 in conjunction with Art. 19 para. 3 of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany (Deutsche Grundgesetz) and respects the Recommendations of the Commission on Professional Self Regulation in Science (DFG).

The purpose of the statutes is realized in particular through the implementation of research projects (research), courses (teaching) as well as lecture events and publication projects (science transfer). Furthermore, the society can also award scholarships to students and young scientists.

The Hugo Grotius gGmbH is registered at the Tax Office Bremen (Finanzamt Bremen) on tax number 60/145/13831.
